I thought this was a good beginning to the Potter series. Here you are introduced to Harry and his life and how he ended up in magic school. It not a movie for younger kids but for older kids it's entertaining and fun.

While I am unable remember for sure, but for all the hoopla over the extra 10 minutes of unseen footage, there seems to be quite a few minutes missing from this DVD version from Warner Bros. Smells like a "release again at Xmas" as the "full theatrical version" to me. Best to wait until then to purchase this DVD

I'm a working mother, I do a lot of volunteer work, I spend quality and quantity time with my kids, and I simply do not have the time to play games (literally!) to find the missing scenes. Those, frankly, are the only reason I bought the CD, and it is extremely irksome to me (who stayed up til 1:45 a.m. working last night) that I can't simply view the scenes I bought and thought I had immediate access to. There should be a work-around for the many adult fans who actually have busy lives. This isn't a Sesame Street movie aimed only at toddlers, and I think the producers ought to have taken the sophistication of its audience into account in designing the special features of the CD. (It is also very annoying to have the Privet St. sign sail in and take up time every time you are, as I was, searching through the CDs for the missing scenes.)

This is the most refined and most developed movie yet in the "Harry Potter" series. It has a stylish, more mature feel to it, thanks to the directing of Alfonso Cuaron.
Cuaron makes use of an iris effect throughout the film, with wonderful results. Scenes open and close in a dreamy, otherworldly sense that only compliments both the setting and the storyline.
While much of Rowling's world has changed since the first two films (directed by Christopher Columbus), it has, for the most part, been improved upon. The castle and its grounds feel older and darker, mirroring the characters' growth into moody adolescence.
Younger viewers (and a handful of older viewers, for that matter) may be frightened by the on-screen depiction of Rowlings' dementors, which are every bit as fear-enducing as the text would lead one to believe.
Daniel Radcliffe and Co. have done a fine job as well in this latest installment. Their acting skills are much-improved, and the actors seem to have much better chemistry between one another.
This is an enjoyable film for Harry Potter fans and cinephiles alike. Cuaron has adapted a great book into a very well-made movie.

This electrifying movie brings to life the world of Harry Potter and is really filled with magic
From goblins working in a bank to a giant mountain troll , a dog with three heads to alive chess set , this is exceptionally welldone and really spellbinding
Great acting too especially from three talented young actors : Daniel Radcliffe who plays the lead role of Harry Potter with feeling and panache , Rupert Grint who plays the amusing Ron and a charming performance by Emma Watson as the delightful Hermione
I havent read any of the books but this movie version ensures there is never a dull moment as we embark on this wonderful adventure
