I have just come home from watching the movie, and I have to say it is amazing!!! The movie is extreamly fathful to the book, but I was disapointed that the sorting hat did not sing. The lines of each character were also hacked up a lot, but my friends who have each read the books over five times didn't seem to notice, where as I, who listen to the audio tapes constantly, could notice every little change. Do not reread the books before going!!! Do not pay attention to the little details! The movie is wonderously fathful, for a movie! Look at Jurassic Park compared to the book! Try to enjoy the movie and not worry about the little changes, it really is wonderful. You have to see it, especially if you have never read the books. It didn't ruin a single thing for me! So go buy a ticket now!
(and then come home and download the movie ...until it comes out on DVD!)

In The Prisoner of Azkaban, the third cinematic installment to the Harry Potter series, Harry must repel the soulless Dementors, who are prowling about the area of Hogwarts in search of Sirius Black, the only person ever to escape the magical prison of Azkaban.I found this movie to be the best Potter movie so far. The special effects are wonderful (especially Buckbeak!) and the three main actors -- those who play Harry, Hermione, and Ron -- really seem to be settling into their characters.Gary Oldman, who plays Sirius Black, is marvalous! Encompassing everything from the way Oldman wears Black's frumpled clothes to the desperation in his voice at being locked up for 12 years, Oldman truly brings Sirius Black to life. Also, even though I'm not a big fan of the character, Emma Thompson's portrayl of the loony Trelawney is worth noting. The biggest gripe I have with this movie is that there were some plot elements in the book relating to Black's relationship with Lupin and James Potter that were omitted in the movie. The omitted elements in no way ruined the movie, but they REALLY should have been there!...and as such the movie was not quite as satisfying as it could have been.Overall, this movie really was quite good and is certainly recommended to fans of the books as well as anyone else interested in seeing it.

I saw this movie twice on the big screen and I'd have to say that I enjoyed it even more when I viewed it on the small screen. The home theatre feels more cosy somehow. It is a beautifully rendered version of a wonderful book. With incredible detail added to build up the world Harry inhabits. Most cast members seem tailor-made for their parts. Unlike at the theatre, it's relatively long running time was no hardship with the option of "pause" and as a great admirer of the book, I couldn't help but wish for even MORE SCENES to expand on the story. The only "flaw" in this version for some reviewers was a lack of major, earthmoving plot points, but for this fan of the Harry Potter series of books, it was a faithful, loving and respectful telling of the story. And a movie that I think I will enjoy viewing many times. The second disk which offers additions is much, much less than I had hoped for and a serious disappointment. The tour of Hogwarts and Hagrid's cottage is cheesy graphics, fuzzy and just not up to any respectable standards. The 'games' are simplistic and pointless. And once played, never a challenge again, even for little kids. In a movie offering such beautiful attention to detail, I would have expected more (from the extras) and would rather had have more out-takes from the film than just the seven scenes offered. The only worthwhile part of this disk is the rather extensive interviews with Chris Columbus and several of the other artists responsible for making this movie. I understand that there are more features available with a CD ROM, but we were not able to view those, so I don't have any comments on what they might add to this disk.So 5 stars for the movie and 2 stars for the extras from this reviewer.

That was such a good movie! I really recommend it...not only 'cause I love Harry Potter, but because it truly is a fantastic film. Of course, the book is much better but the movie is still great. It was extremely faithful to the book, even if it went a bit faster (totally understandable; I mean, it went by very quickly and it still lasted 2:30 hours! Imagine if it went by as detailed as the book!) it was still pretty much the same. The special effects rock (I especially liked the Quidditch match), and the actors are wonderful. I think Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint are everything I imagined Harry and Ron to be...Ron is hilarious and Harry is sweet and innocent...they were adorable. I also like Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy...he was really good. All in all, I really liked it and I think it deserves all five stars i gave it!

Well, not really. Possibly the biggest movie event of the millenium, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone lives up to the expectations of MOST of the readers, with a few exceptions. If anybody doesn't know, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is about a boy who finds out on his eleventh birthday that he is the descendant of two powerful wizards and that he possesses unique powers of his own, and to fulfill his destiny at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It seems a bit Star Wars-ish, right? However, the story goes beyond that. Chris Colombus definitely did find the best British actors. Harry is played by the extremely well look-alike, Daniel Radcliffe, the hilarious freckled Ron Weasley by Rupert Grint and cute Emma Watson to play the smart and clever Hermione Granger. The kids surprisingly hold up a good performance, being with little acting experience. The adults do an excellent performance also. From the strict and clever Minerva McGonagall by Maggie Smith to Richard Harris' kind and gently Albus Dumbledore. By far, the best performance was Snape, played by the dark and moody Alan Rickman. An excellent performance he had. The most important part of this movie is the way it captures the heart and soul of the book. Surprisingly, it succeeds very well. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is definitely not supposed to be a dark, moody flick but it has just enough the remain faithful. It might be a little scary for kids under 7 but a lot of people above that age won't be frightened. And most of the events of the book are in there. One major plot scene was left out for time but the movie would've been better with it in there. From the troll to the Forbidden Forest, the movie exceeds with almost everything in the book. The CGI effects were great but some of them were a bit...cheesy. You could defenitely see CGI effects in The Quidditch Match. Fluffy and Firenze the Centuar were the ones that needed some work as with Voldemort. Overall, they're decent. Lastly, John William's score. This is a nice refresh of John's basic work, with great use of bells and chimes. Though, Harry's Theme could've been toned out of it a bit. It gets a bit tiring to hear it repeated occasionally. The score wasn't original but it did set the mood. Overall, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is a definite must see. It might not be the greatest, but its a refreshing film from everyday life. There could be some improvements, but the whole thing really blew me away.
