George, George, George.......*sigh*

... First off, prior to Episode I, George hadn't been behind the camera as a director since the mid-70's to direct the original Star Wars movie......while his time was well spent in doing more for sound and visual effects than any other individual, and dragging the movie theaters into the next millenium via digital projection.....well, he has fallen short in the other aspects of his filmmaking. While the effects in this film were stunning, they rather took over the film, and made it difficult to focus on the elements we were supposed to be watching (battle scenes mostly), additionally, everything looked *too* darn good! Remember the slightly gritty realism of the first three movies? I felt more like I was watching a video game or a cartoon than a film. The worst, however (and it pains me to say it almost as much as it hurts to think back on it) was the truly flat dialogue, and almost unanimously poor acting performances. With the exception of Anakin (who needs to take some lessons and go back to soaps), I don't believe this was really the fault of the actors, but of the director. When Liam Neeson (from Ep I), Samuel L. Jackson, Natalie Portman, and Ewan McGregor, all actors of notable talent, can come across so stale....well, I'm afraid there's a reason for it. The two baddies "Senator Palpatine" and "Count Dooku" were able to come out a bit better as they are both veteran actors who could likely do the parts with nearly no direction at all. The love story was just darned uncomfortable and annoying to watch, Anakin needed a good kick in the pants and sure didn't come across as someone who had just spent 10 YEARS training as a Jedi. More like 10 minutes. Natalie would have been able to do better with a better leading man, cause all I felt up there was hormones...not heat or passion. I felt like I was watching a teen TV show, not a blockbuster movie. Yeesh.... About the only thing that saved this from being a complete disappointment was the decision to have Yoda kick some serious tail! It got the best cheer out of the whole film.....and I think everybody walked out knowing that Yoda is *indeed* a Jedi Master. The music was excellent.....John Williams can do no wrong. The costumes, creature and ships were all impressive.....but all was overshadowed by the fact that half of the fans in that theater could have written a better script than we saw. George, some people simply need to play to their strengths, and yours is apparently *not* directing anymore. Collaborate with a strong director and writer, and then just step aside and handle the effects that you are so good at. I adore Star Wars as much as anyone, but have seen enough good and bad films to recognize each when I see them.

The way it should have always been

The quality of this DVD set is, so far, outstanding. I have a 48 JVC projection 1080i set and I am very pleased at the lack of compression artifacts. The colors are very nice and bright. I think a very good job was done to make this set top notch. I will, however, never get used to Han stepping over Jabba's tail in episode IV; that scene is just horrible. I can't believe Geoge let that one through.

I'm not disappointed

Well, what else can you expect from a Star Wars fan?
Well, you all gotta admit that it was better than Episode 1. I was rather impressed with Ep. 2. It was better than I expected.
McGregor's acting is great. He's the perfect Obi-Wan. Christensen was excellent. A well-chosen...chosen one! :) His acting really impressed me. When he's confessing to Padme about killing the tusken raiders was fantastic. Some people may have found it to be funny or...thought he went overboard. But THAT WAS ACTING!!
Yoda lives up to his name in here and proves to be all-powerful as all the others have said he was with his fight scene with Darth Tyranus/Count Dooku.
We have an introduction to the popular bounty hunter Boba Fett and his clone father Jango Fett.
The beginning of the Clone Wars is brought to life. We all heard of the clone wars from Princess Leia in Episode 4.
I have to admit some of the scenes weren't meant to be Star Wars. For example, when Anakin and Padme` are rolling the fields and everything else...that's just not Star Wars.
Well, overall Attack of the Clones is awesome. I know some other people will think otherwise and that won't change my opinion on Ep. 2. And I know that my opinion won't change anyone else's. It may. Who knows?
And it really bothers me when people write a stinkin' essay on how they didn't like the movie...drives me crazy...you just gotta know that the prequel movies were made to tie the whole trilogy together and so we can know some history about the characters and how they came to be what they are in the trilogy. EPISODE 2 WAS AWESOME! Congrats George. (and stop insulting George...)

HE STOLE THE VOICE FROM BUCKET HEAD!

This is getting out of hand! I want my original Star Wars, mat pantings and all! I want Boba Fett's real voice, not a bad actors cheasy dub over! I don't want to see a digitized version of Harrison Ford's head dodge a lazer from Greedo's blaster! Hey, why don't we add Jar Jar Binks in the next release, he could be chewbacca's old friend, It would add continuity. What happened to George Lucas, he screwed up Episode 1, Episode 2, and most likely Episode 3, but why did you have to take this from everyone. Sure It's just a view changes, but it's the little things in life MAN! Common, I'm not gonna tell you it wasn't fun watching STAR WARS on DVD! It will always be one of those movies to unique to be qualified a "movie", well lets hope any way. Prey there are no signifigant Special effects advances within the next 10 years. I'd pay $100 for the original trilogy to be on DVD and so would 1000's of other people. JUST RELEASE THE ORIGINAL PLEASE, FOR THE FANS!

The best Star Wars movie yet (IMHO)

In my humble opinion, this is the best Star Wars movie George Lucas has created in the series up to this point. The scope, effects, storyline, and characters are more complex in Attack of the Clones than other films in the Star Wars series. The DVD comes in a 2-disk set containing the movie plus bonus materials that will satisfy most Star Wars fans. My favorite extras are the deleted scenes, which show how the story goes into even more depth than the finished product viewers saw in theaters. The DVDs have excellent picture and sound quality. They are a good value and worth the purchase.

Originals Are Available In DVD

I don't know why everyone is complaining about the new versions. If you don't like the changes (I don't), then buy the originals on DVD.

I have a very nice DVD version of the originals without Lucas' 1997 edits that I bought in NYC.

a new hope: excellent, but some flaws

i won't say anything for the changes since i only watched the episode 4 of the set by now (i received it yesterday). the story is the same too, not anything to complaint. the video quality is superb. the film doesn't show its age. i can say that the picture quality is sharper than the sequel dvd's. but there are some flaws in the picture. during the opening sequence there are reddish flashes which can be handled better. another one, which is very disturbing, is occurs during the vader vs kenobi duel. as the sabers clashes a yellowish green halo (sabers are blue and red) and it doesn't look like an effect resulting due to saber clashes. since lots of time has passed since i've watched episode 4, i can't remember if those were present in the original movie though. and the last, but not the least, some shots of tie fighters haven't get cleaned of the boxes around them. the sound? perfect.

Worth waiting for

I just had a few miscellaneous comments to make, not so much in the way of a full review so much as a few personal reactions to the movie.I saw the movie at the opening show last night, and it was worth waiting for.The movie has great special effects, of course, and the planetary backdrops and settings are really breathtaking. Lucas uses more of these than in any of the other previous movies. The depth, detail and realism of these is really amazing, and they rival or exceed any science fiction art ever done up to this time. For example, the scene on the Kamino ocean-world was a nice touch, since Lucas has done so many scenes on desert planets before, and it makes a great backdrop for the fight scene between Obi Wan and Jango Fett. Lucas just keeps getting better and better in the special effects areas. The climactic battle scene is also probably the most ambitious thing Lucas has attempted, and it's a long one. You'll also like the dual between Yoda and Count Dooku. Yoda himself gets into the fighting in this one; he's not only a teacher in the background, and it's pretty cool when he does. This was one of the 2 or 3 points in the movie when people starting cheering and clapping out loud. Basically, Yoda rocks, since you finally get to see what his powers really are like. You get to see why he's the head Jedi, and as I said, it's pretty cool. And last but not least, Samuel Jackson has a much bigger role in this movie, instead of merely a cameo as in The Phantom Menace. His fight scene with Jango Fett is another one of the high points during the final huge battle scene between the Jedi and the massed battle droids.I only had two minor criticisms, which is that despite the more complex plot than in The Phantom Menace, I still found it a little weak, but it was better than the last one. But the story lines of the last two movies still weren't as good as the three original Star Wars movies. My second criticism was that unfortunately I found the casting of the Anakin character a little weak. Considering this was the probably the most important role in the movie, I think Lucas could have found a better choice. I'm not usually that critical when it comes to things like this (I didn't even mind Jar Jar Binks when he first appeared in The Phantom Menace). But it was still okay. But neither of these problems bugged me too much, because overall I liked the movie and am happy to have another "prequel." I mainly go for the sheer visual appeal and impact of movies like this, and am not bothered too much by problems in other areas. The special effects and the strong characterizations are what make Star Wars movies so appealing. I give it five stars for special effects and four stars for plot and characterization, so if I could give it four and half stars here, I would.

I should have watched Independence Day

If special effects could save a film this might have been interesting. The music, cinematography, and scenery are all excellent. Unfortunately the young Jake Lloyd "Anakin Skywalker" is no Haley Joel Osment. He has the look but no substance, I couldn't wait for him to get off the screen. Jar Jar... needed to be reigned in a bit. I was expecting a lot from this movie. The story is very weak and this was a waste of a good cast. I doubt if I will play the DVD more than once.

Yoda is great, but out of character at the end.

This was a really good film but to me one scene should have been edited out and put on DVD for a great deleted scene.
(spoiler) alert! The scene with yoda using a lightsaber! No! No! it did not work for me. He is such a good mentor and intellectual character that he didn't really need to get into a lightsaber duel at all. The scene is great looking and exciting but far feched, If you ask me. I know most people liked it, but I felt that if George Lucas would have thought this out more he would have seen what I see.
I think George is way better than anyone could be for these films and not downing him at all. If he would have stopped it with the force neutral scene between Dooku and Yoda it would have been enough. You don't need to see Yoda sport a saber even to prove his power!!!!
I do think that it was way better than It could have been and it looked cool but was just too much.
I also thought Hayden was very good as Anakin and my favorite seen was on Tatooine when he is telling Padme' why he did what he did with the SANDPEOPLE it was a VERY VERY GOOD scene and George should be PROUD! Obiwan was great and his battle with Jango was excellent! The arena scenes also excellent!
Droid factory scenes great and exciting. Air Taxi scene also good and the love story good. The C-3PO comic relief was very funny and made me laugh aloud!! The parts with his mother heart felt and well done.
To wrap things up Samuel L Jackson was GREAT! as Mace and kicked tail.
The lightsaber duel at the end was excellent and interesting
and exciting, one of the best!

I think the Yoda with a lightsaber thing will set in later and I will accept it, but for now GREAT MOVIE!
With that single editing flaw!
and maybe a little too slow for kids first half.
Other than that Excellent Movie! Awesome action and effects!
GOOD JOB LUCAS!

I would also like to add I loved The Phantom Menace and liked Jar Jar Binks. I don't know what the big deal is with him.
He worked better in TPM than AOTC though.
